Reflection#5 Project1 Interviews

Image
This reflection follows the Ranning model of reflection. What Happened? We came up with interview questions and reached out to members of the school communities to find out what they think about the way students buy and sell used textbooks at PAS. We then analyzed the collected information and identified trends and took note of information that we did not expect. Think and feel - What were you thinking and feeling? I was thinking that we could also do a survey via google forums and not just the interviews. I felt like the interviews were taking up too much time (approx 7min each) and we could've gotten more data if we also used alternative methods. Evaluate - what was good and bad about the experience? What went well was that our interviewees gave helpful information on what they thought, and even revealed new information that we were surprised about. What was bad was that we interviewed only a certain type of student, and our responses do not reflect the though

Reflection#4 Marshmallow Challenge 2

Image
This reflection follows the Ranning model of reflection. What Happened? We did the marshmallow challenge again. Think and feel - What were you thinking and feeling? This was the second time doing this so we felt that we would be able to do this better than last time. I thought that we could take what went well and what did not go well last time and come up with a better way to do it this time. I was hoping that we would use an assembly line sort of system to build with more efficiency. Evaluate - what was good and bad about the experience? This time we used the same structure that we used last time, with slight differences. But that did not happen until we finished arguing, this time for a longer duration of time. This time, some people believed that we need to switch to a new structure design, while some people thought that we could improve on the design we had last time. In the end, we didn't have a choice but to make what we made last time, with small improvi

Discover FIVE potential design challenges

Discover FIVE potential design challenges. 1. People argue that the air conditioner is always too cold and turn it off. Resulting in the rest of the people in the room to feel hot. They turn it back on, and the conflict continues. This can be an issue to address with a design challenge. 2. Trouble selling used textbooks. 3. School lunch is insanely unhealthy. 4. The desks and chairs in the classrooms always shake, their legs are not of equal length. 5. Laptops are constantly running out of battery but there is no place to charge in the classroom. Or would require taking turns with other people to charge, sometimes leading to conflict or both laptops running out of battery before the end of class.

Reflection#3 Marshmallow Challenge

This reflection follows the Ranning model of reflection. What Happened? The class split into two groups and competed to come up with the tallest free-standing spaghetti tower with a marshmallow on top. Both teams were given 20 spaghetti sticks, some tape, some string, and a marshmallow.  Think and feel - What were you thinking and feeling? I was thinking that it was going to be easy because (I initially thought) all we had to do was tape the sticks up in a structural fashion and the building would be tall. Instead, the spaghetti sticks were way more fragile than I originally expected. It felt like one small mistaken move will destroy the entire structure that we were working on and we had to be very careful. Evaluate - what was good and bad about the experience? This experience was good in that we were forced to cooperate, even though we all had difference ideas for the building. We couldn't argue about the best idea/concept forever because of limited time and c
